2011 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Review. High gas prices are the talk of the day, leading many car buyers to focus on smaller, more efficient models.  For some people, however, bigger isn't necessarily better, but it is necessary. Chevrolet has unveiled the Sonic Super 4 at the 2011 SEMA Show. The vehicle is a race car concept that demonstrates Chevrolet’s new small car performance potential. The Sonic Super 4 joins other Chevy performance cars this week in the Chevrolet display at the SEMA Show.
“This is an exciting example of Chevrolet’s small-car performance capability,”, commented Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
“Sonic has the soul and specifications to be a winner.”, he added.
Sonic measures 2 525 mm – wheelbase, 1 509 mm – front and rear tracks. Its body-frame-integral structure ranks among the stiffest in the global small-car segment, with some of the steel in it delivering tensile strength of 145 000 psi (1 000 MPa) or higher.
The Sonic Super 4 concept features a suspension modified for racing and a lower restriction intake and exhaust system to provide enhanced on-track performance. The interior comes with a chrome moly roll cage built to SCCA specifications, as well as other safety equipment. It looks the part, too, with a lowered stance and 18” racing wheels and Chevy tires. It also wears Chevrolet Z-Spec concept accessories, including ground effects and a high-wing spoiler.

The Suburban maintains control over the road quite well for its size, though its sheer size and mass can get in the way of maneuverability. For such a big truck, the Chevrolet Suburban is relatively quick when unloaded and can reach 60 mph in under 9 seconds. However, the base V8 Suburban doesn't always feel so quick when carrying a load of power- and fuel-sapping stuff. The suspension system is impressive, though -- coil-over shocks up front and a five-link setup out back, plus precise rack-and-pinion steering -- that all make for more composed handling and a smooth ride. It's still not exactly nimble around corners, but the cabin is quiet at speed and the ride is always comfortably controlled. When pointed straight down an interstate or out in the wide-open spaces, there aren't many better, more capable cruisers than the

The Suburban lineup features LS, LT and LTZ models, wîth 2WD and 4WD, as well as 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 series. (LTZ is available only on 1500 series.) A Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed is standard on 1500 models, optimizing fuel economy on the highway via reduced engine speed. Also, the lower-rpm engine speed on the highway enhances interior quietness.

The 2011 Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUV is offered in 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 models. Both are available in the base LS and midlevel LT, while the top-shelf LTZ model is available as a 1500 only. All Suburbans can be had in either two- or four-wheel drive.

Many of the features that are standard on upper trim levels are available on the LS or LT via packages or individual options. The Suburban's engines differ depending on whether a regular-duty 1500 or heavy-duty 2500 is selected. The 5.3-liter V-8 in the 1500 can run on E85 and uses Active Fuel Management to shut down cylinders to improve fuel economy. On rear-drive 1500 models, the 5.3-liter V-8 has an iron block; on four-wheel-drive models, it has an aluminum block. Suburban 2500 models are powered by a 6.0-liter V-8 that can run on E85.
When properly equipped, the Suburban 1500 can tow up to 8,100 pounds and the 2500 can tow up to 9,600 pounds. Both engines mate to a standard six-speed automatic transmission.
